Meditation

“Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It is a way of entering into the quiet that is already there - buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day” -Deepak Chopra

What is Meditation?

There are various ways of practising meditation. All methods are around bringing your attention to something specific and releasing the busy, rambling thoughts. Mindful Meditation is about awareness of what is in the moment with acceptance and non judgment. Attention based meditation means you bring your attention to something in particular, such as your breath, or a place in nature, using it as an anchor to focus on.

As a result of letting go of our restless thoughts, we can access a deeper level of our being - a quiet, calm place that is always there. In today’s world, meditation is the key to learning how to combat stress, understanding more about yourself, improving your health and increasing your sense of well being. Meditation is for everyone, whatever their lifestyle.

What are the benefits of meditation?

Scientific studies have shown that meditation has numerous benefits. For example, it can improve the immune system, rejuvenate the body, provide clarity of mind and improve concentration ability, sleep patterns and lower blood pressure. Meditation is dose dependent, so the more you do it, the more results you get.

How often should I meditate?

The best time to meditate is in the morning time before you start your day. However, you can practice at any stage during the day. It is a good idea to practice at the same time each day, so that you can remember to do it and incorporate it into your daily routine.

"I find the classes great, so comfortable and relaxing. It's like a treat every week and I am finding the benefit of it." Ria, Clontarf.

"....Since starting I have learned to live in a much less stressful way. I feel more positive about myself and do not seem to worry about what tomorrow will bring, or whether I am doing the right things in life. It seems to me that there is a very powerful energy created in meditating with Anita's group. I thought it would be too big a commitment to go along every week, but instead I found myself looking forward to each Tuesday night and the calm clarity that it brought me on whatever issues were troubling me as the months passed. I feel that I enjoy being alive, I am chilled out and that I have really learned about just 'being' in the moment and taking in the present. Thanks Anita." - Brid, Glasnevin.

Meditation Facts

Our research* shows that positive effects can be observed after only 5 minutes of practice, twice daily for 4 weeks.

Meditation practice is thousands of years old and has been practiced by members of all global religions, including Christians; you don’t have to be religious to gain the benefits.

Meditation practice integrates the mind and the body; it can have positive impacts on both.

It is not possible to completely stop your thinking process. [i.e. Meditation is not about clearing your mind completely].

All you need to practice meditation is your head and your breath.
